Has anyone else noticed that the City of Regina has video clips up on their Election 2009 candidate profiles? I’m glad to live in a city that announces candidate news on Twitter and takes the time to put clips on Youtube.
Now if only we’d vote…

This map isn’t very easy to find on the City of Regina’s web site, so I thought I would post it on here.

I feel like a traitor.
My love affair with Regina’s Transition Area is coming to an end and I am soon moving into the General Hospital Area. While the General Hospital Area is beautiful, funky and vibrant, I can not help but feel a little bit guilty and a little bit sad. This marks the end of an era – I have lived in and around downtown Regina for years and have never lived outside of the Transition Area. These are very sad days….
Keep watching this spot – I am shooting a video to serve as something of a goodbye to the Transition Area. And, I will ‘premiere’ it here when it is ready to go…

We have been using this crappy template for some time (mainly to get this site indexed and out of Google’s sandbox), but we wanted to let you know that we are about to make some changes. Not only do I have a custom template ready to go, but I am also developing a few different applications for reginastreets.ca.
I am not ready to formally announce what is going to happen to this site, but the changes will be fairly drastic. While the blog is currently a large part of this site’s content, we are going to roll out some new features over the next few months. Keep on the lookout for these exciting changes!

University of Regina Political Science Professor and regular Regina Streets (Print) Magazine contributor, Joyce Green was recently interviewed for a Leader-Post article on the municipal election campaign. Green was speaking about how quiet the campaign has been:
Joyce Green says that could be a sign of citizen satisfaction with the status quo, but it is more likely a symptom of voter alienation in an unhealthy system.
“People are detached — maybe from municipal politics, but I would say more generally all of our formal political processes,” she said. “In a democracy, this is a terrible thing. We ought to be having important public discussions about public policy … (and) we’re not.”

Here are some figures from the 2006 Municipal Election. As you can see, our voter turnout was pretty abysmal. Let’s try to add 20% to these numbers this year:
| Ward | Voter Turnout | |
| 1 | 43% | |
| 2 | 44% | |
| 3 | 32% | |
| 4 | 34% | |
| 5 | 34% | |
| 6 | 22% | |
| 7 | 31% | |
| 8 | 32% | |
| 9 | 41% | |
| 10 | 40% |

Our civic election campaign is in full swing. And, as part of my commitment to both being informed about the issues and to start updating this blog regularly (again), I have decided to start looking at the races which affect me the most.
As a long time resident of Ward 3, I would like to start off by looking at the four candidates, and the profiles that they submitted to the City of Regina’s page on the election. For fairness, I will cover each of the candidates in the same post and in alphabetical order. Warning, this is going to be a long one… Read more »

This is cheap, but I just put up some content on my personal web page and wanted to get it indexed. So, you likely shouldn’t bother checking out hluska.ca.
This particular site is going to start going through some serious changes. Keep an eye out for them…
